Helping your child build skills, confidence, and a love for reading—one step at a time.
When a child starts dyslexia therapy, parents often wonder what actually happens during sessions. At Read901 Dyslexia Center, we use the Take Flight program—an evidence-based, Orton–Gillingham–based intervention designed specifically for students with dyslexia. Each session is structured, intentional, and personalized to meet your child’s unique needs.
Here’s what you can expect.
A Warm, Supportive Environment
Every child who walks through our door is met with patience, encouragement, and understanding. We know reading struggles can be frustrating, so we make sure therapy feels safe and positive. Progress happens fastest when students feel confident and supported.
Small Group Instruction
Our sessions are typically in small groups (no more than three students). This allows for individualized attention and immediate feedback—so your child never gets lost in the crowd.
A Structured, Multisensory Lesson Format
Each Take Flight session follows a proven, consistent structure that helps students internalize reading skills through repetition and multisensory learning. Lessons generally include:
Review and Warm-Up – Reinforcing previously learned concepts and sounds to build automaticity.
Phonemic Awareness Practice – Working with the sounds of language through oral activities that strengthen listening and blending skills.
New Concept Instruction – Introducing new letter-sound patterns, spelling rules, or morphology (word parts like prefixes and suffixes).
Multisensory Activities – Using touch, sight, and sound together—for example, tracing letters in sand while saying the sound aloud.
Reading Practice – Applying new skills in controlled text passages that gradually increase in complexity.
Spelling and Writing – Connecting decoding (reading) with encoding (spelling) to solidify understanding.
Fluency and Comprehension Work – Building speed, accuracy, and understanding through guided reading and discussion.
Consistent Progress Over Time
Take Flight is designed as a multi-year intervention, with measurable progress at every stage. You’ll see growth not only in reading and spelling, but also in confidence, motivation, and self-esteem.
Parents receive regular updates on their child’s progress, including which skills have been mastered and which are still developing.
Why It Works
Take Flight is built on decades of research about how the brain learns to read. By explicitly teaching the structure of language and reinforcing it through multisensory methods, children with dyslexia learn to read the way their brain learns best.
At Read901, we combine this powerful program with compassionate, individualized support—helping every child discover that they can be a successful reader.
